Hiatus
I recently came to a decision. I need to take a break. I have been writing the same work for over two years. That’s why I need to break off from the original work and work on a new novel. It’s healthy to take a break from a work by doing something different for a while. If anyone out there is writing a series, I think you owe it to yourself to take a break once in a blue moon. Too much time spent with just one work builds attachment.
Now, there’s nothing wrong with an author being attached to their stories. However, too much time makes the attachment too strong. Eventually, the author refuses to let go, and becomes a one trick pony. A truly great author treats their work like their children. They work on it and help it grow, but once it’s reached maturity, they let go and wait for the story to come back. Sure, once in a while, the author checks in to make sure the story’s doing okay, but then it’s time to check on the other stories. Quite honestly, it’s part of the reason I’m not a fan of Dr. Who. The entire TV series has a built in system that prevents the character from dying, thereby providing an out from the show ending.
That’s all I have for this week. Until next time, keep your sanity serenaded.
